Master's Programmes

The master’s degree programmes at the Norwegian Academy of Music are two year postgraduate/second cycle degree programmes in accordance with the common European Bologna Process:
- Advanced Studies for Solo Instrumentalist or Chamber Music Ensembles
- Master's in Composition
- Master’s in Conducting
- Master’s in Performance, with the specialisations:
- Principal Main Instrument/Chamber Music
- Improvised Music/Jazz
- Traditional Nordic Folk Music
- Accompaniment and Chamber Music for Classical Pianists
- Operarepetiteur
- Performance with Thesis
- Master's Degree Programme in Performing Music Technology
- Master’s in Church Music
- Master’s in Music Theory
- Master’s in Music Education
- Master’s in Music Therapy
- In-Depth Performance Studies – Master’s level (one year non-degree)
The entrance requirements for all programmes are a three year undergraduate/first cycle degree - usually a Bachelor’s - completed no later than spring 2013. Most programmes also require a relevant specialisation in the bachelor’s degree. For the following programmes all tuition can be in English:
- Advanced Studies for Solo Instrumentalist or Chamber Music Ensembles
- Master's in Composition
- Master’s in Conducting
- Master's Degree Programme in Performing Music Technology
- Master’s in Performance, with the specialisations:
- Principal Main Instrument/Chamber Music
- Improvised Music/Jazz
- Accompaniment and Chamber Music for Classical Pianists
- Operarepetiteur
- Performance with Thesis
- In-Depth Performance Studies – Master’s level (one year non-degree)
Important dates and deadlines:
15 December 2012 | The application with all necessary enclosures must be submitted. The envelope must be postmarked no later than this date. |
18– 22 February 2013 | Auditions at the Academy for all master’s programmes, except composition. |
27February 2013 at 1500 hours | The results of the auditions are posted at www.nmh.no. Admission letters will be sent by regular mail the next following days. |
11– 15 March 2013 | Auditions at the Academy for master’s composition. |
20 March 2013 | The results of the auditions for master’s composition are posted at www.nmh.no and admission letters will be sent by regular mail. |
1 July 2013 | Information about the academic year 2011/12 will be sent by regular mail. |
1 August 2013 | Diplomas/transcripts for education completed in spring 2011 must be forwarded to the Academy. |
23 August 2013 | First day of the semester. |
